Tawich Construction was created to employ our local Crees and develop our community using our own local resources. The federal government was funding community development and infrastructure. Had our Chief and council not seen the vision of training our locals the the contract would have gone to outside resources. It was important that we give the opportunity for our members to be a part of the building process for our community.

Development started with housing before any major civil works infrastructure started. The resources used from the Cree Nation of Wemindji would then be transferred to the new company Tawich Construction Incorporated. Development was about to boom so the Cree Nation of Wemindji saw the opportunity and potential of a construction company. The company started out building house but later became leaders in infrastructure.

Today we employ more than 200 Crees locally and at remote sites throughout Eeyou Istchee. This is a true testament to the business challenges we have overcome. Cree Construction Development Corporation (CCDC) was a key contributor to the success of Tawich Construction. With their support TCI was able to secure many contracts that would help with the capital needed to grow and purchase equipment of their own.

Tawich has now established themselves as a reliable construction company and have the resources to accomplish any civil works projects and are also venturing into the mining development industry.
